Meet Shelley!

It's that time again...time to introduce our newest Guest Designer, Shelley May! I found Shelley on Sis TV where her "Welcome Summer" page (see below) caught my eye. I read the journaling and literally laughed out loud. Clearly her little girl is the main subject in many of Shelley's pages but that's okay too because that Miss Kennedy is just a DOLL!!

So take a look at her interview and get to know a little bit about Shelley and what makes her tick. Also, there are 3 of Shelley's all-time favorite pages at the end of this post for you to take inspiration from and to scrap your own version. Upload a link to your page in the comments section of this post and you could win a prize pack of some of Shelley's most favorite scrap supplies.

I'll post later with the details on the winner of the scraplift challenge from last month and her fabulous prize.

A big giant thanks to Martha for joining us in September for our challenges. Her pages brought us loads of inspo and we will continue to visit her blog and 'borrow' some of her clever design ideas...hope to see you around the Flickr group too!!

and now without further ado....
*********************************************************************
Q:Tell us a bit about you and your family.

A: I am married to one heck of a good man – Ron. We’ve been hitched now for 6 years… or is it 7? (the 7 year itch skews your memory!) We have a fabulous daughter – Kennedy – who is three. Honestly – clichĂ© as it may sound – I never really knew life with her would be so wonderful. I also have a 9 year old fur baby, Bailey. I work from home full time and consider myself quite fortunate to be able to do so. I always hate this question – as I don’t like to brag or talk about myself… so let’s leave it at this so you can get to know me: I’m VERY sarcastic, funny, passionate about matters of the heart, I’m a dreamer, I truly feel I’m a good person with a warm heart. I love good music, a hot cuppa joe, and lots of paper and glue around me at all times.

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking and where did you get your start in this craft?

A: In doing some closet purging this summer – I learned – I’ve been scrapbooking since high school – maybe even before. We just didn’t call it that back then! I was also a stamper in elementary school. However – I really got bitten by the paper bug in 2005 – when my daughter was born. I had to do my own invites for my baby shower – and wanted something different. I walked into a local scrapbook store - $250 later that afternoon – and the rest is history! I’ve always been creative in one way or another, either with my hands sewing, embroidery, stamping or performing on the stage in plays and sketch comedy! This papercrafting thing - it’s become a passion and one day – would like to make a career out of it!

Q:What inspires your creativity when you are scrapbooking?

A: This is a toughie – I get inspiration from everything. Ads in magazines, commercials, idea books, clothing, MUSIC – but mostly I am inspired by new products. That’s all it takes most of the time. Oh – and a BIG cup of coffee and the ipod blaring!

Q:Describe your creative style

A: when you see it maybe you can explain it to me? The word eclectic comes to mind – but also clean, girlie, and often simple.

Q:What are your three favorite products/techniques right now?

A: I am in love with October Afternoon right now. I think in my own little world it was created just for me. I have a strong affection for Thickers and all things Making Memories. I’m not a big “technique” person – but do love to distress and am loosening up a bit and playing more with paint and “found” items.

Q:What project(s) are you currently working on?

A: I picked up these huge wooden butterflies with metal antennae from Joann’s about a year ago. They were regular price 19.99 – I think I paid 1.97 for them? I bought three. No intentions for them – I just did – know one day I’d alter them. I’ve got one in the works… maybe you’ll get to see it soon! :O) I’m also working on some Halloween banners for the house and our cottage we rented for a harvest camping trip in October!

Q:Describe your perfect day

A: MY perfect day would be sleeping in and waking up to the sound of the ocean. Crisp clean air and a beautiful ocean view. Coffee and fresh scones and fruit for breakfast – then a day filled with junking and antiquing. This is something I’ve dreamed of doing for ages. Lunch at a little sidewalk cafĂ©, rounding out the afternoon with a mani/pedi and a massage. More shopping – and a nice dinner on the deck overlooking the ocean… and the rest of the night spent creating with all the random trinkets I found along the way!

Challenge 91 and some news

Oh...so much is changing!!! This week's DT is much smaller than we've been used to. Ronda (as you may or may not know) is now a Memory Makers Master - YAY RONDA!!! - among a slew of other things that are keeping her crazy busy so this is the end of the road with her part of our team. She's just got so much going on. Chrissy is pregnant with #3 and is kinda feeling gross (us moms can relate!) so she's decided that she needs to take care of her body and has stepped down too, so that leaves us with a small group of 3. Tania, Gillian and I have created pages for this week's challenge and I, for one, had a blast with this sketch. I got a big box of vintage stuff so of course some of the goodies ended up on my page!

Join us on our Flickr Group and post your page to win this month's Couture Collection. Make sure you indicate which week your challenge is for so we can include it in our voting process and remember that the 100th member to join our group will win a prize.

AND!!!! You have till next friday to get your scraplifts of Martha's pages found HERE posted in the comments section to win a fantastic prize pack... but I'll show you that later!

So a big fat thank you to Ronda & Chrissy for their incredible & inspiring artwork over the course of the past few months...Good luck with everything guys!!!

Gillian

Tania
This girl is so motivated! Not only did she rock this week's sketch, but she also made TWO! And, as always, she's got extras down below Martha's pages...check it out!

Challenge 90

Well, it's a late post...I know. This week has not been good. The ministry of children and youth services in Alberta took my best friend's foster-babies away for no good reason. It kills me that one person can wield the power to make false accusations and that the ministry can just swoop in and say things like, "If it were up to me, I'd take all your kids away forever and you'd never see them again!" Shannon is a professional foster parent and adoptive mother to four children. She's the person that Ray and I have named as the person to raise our children if we die while they are young. There is no reason those babies should be gone. My heart is hurting and it was very hard for me to get it together to post today. I'm not feeling any kind of scrap-ability.

Here's the sketch for this week. Please play along with our monthly contest and upload your work to our Flickr Group so that you can win a free Couture Collection. You can use any products you like in your pages.

Sorry I'm no fun today. Scrap happy on behalf of those who can't.

A little detail. Love it!

Challenge 89

I love weeks like this where everything just gets DONE! Of course, when I say everything I don't really mean everything...The to-do list is wearing a lot of blue highlighter and truth be told, I didn't make a new list yet. But I got some fun scrapping done the other day, I've been knitting Christmas gifts (thank God for projects that move along quickly!) and have been poking along on a few little home reno projects. I love how this time of year frees me up for all kinds of projects, although I do have a nasty habit of starting more of them than I really care to finish! LOL

This week's sketch is nice and simple which I think works so well for most peoples' scrapping styles as it totally leaves loads of room to interpret the layout in a way that still reflects each artist's individual style. I love everyone's pages for this week. They are super cute and I bet you'll come up with some equally fantastic pages to add to our Flickr Group! Remember to get all your pages for this month's contest uploaded before October 3, which is when we post the first challenge of October. You can use any products you wish, just remember to mention the weekly challenge number your page is created for.

Oh, and a while back I announced a contest (read about it here). I've decided to extend the deadline to enter until my blogoversary in December. You can keep an eye on the countdown on the sidebar (near the bottom) but note that we're two members away from 50 on the Flickr Group so if you like free scrap stuff...

Challenge 88

Oh yes, it's that time again...a wee change has taken place too, we'll be using straight sketches from now on. It's soooo hard finding great artwork to use for our challenges and getting in touch with the original artist for copyright consent stuff! So, original sketches created by yours truly will be our source of inspo each Friday...so much fun!

I had more fun creating this page than I expected...I think that was because I got to use a photo of me instead of my kids and that butterfly punch that I've been hanging on to for that 'someday' when I just knew it would come in handy!

If you are inspired by this sketch and want to create something, please take a minute to upload your work to our Flickr Group by the end of the month and you could be the lucky winner of a Couture Collection! You can use any products you wish for your page, just make sure the weekly challenge number is somewhere in the title (example: being me - challenge 88.jpg). Check out our amazing Design Team's creations this week...

Martha
I can't even tell you how much I am feelin' the love for Martha's work. Her layered style and, oh look...fabrics (YUM) makes for a feast for the eyes. Amazing layout!

Oh, and one more thing...there's snow on the hills beside our house. They're WAY closer and Way shorter than they look. Great. Guess summer's really over. Lame.

Meet Martha!!!

Yay for September! What a wild and woolly summer, man. Farming is NOT an easy way of life and it is anything but quiet. Our summer weather here in Whitehorse Yukon, Canada sucked ass (the most rain in 35 years but I think I've told you that already) and the only scrapping I got done was for our weekly challenges. I feel like I'm totally behind!!! But you know there's nothing like being inspired to put a dose of high-test espresso into your mojo and let me tell you , this month's Guest Designer, Martha Bonneau has a wicked style that is absolutely unmistakable. She is a lover of color and layers (and has a fondness for textiles...a girl after my own heart!)

Below you'll get a glimpse at who she is and at her three favorite pages. You know how this works...scraplift her artwork and post the link in the comments section to this post. Later in the month (when the goodies all arrive) I'll post the prize pack. You have till the end of this month to upload your lifts and we'll tell ya who won in October. But first things first...Pearl, (aka paperfections) is the winner of Holly's Scraplift Challenge! YAY! Pearl, email me at info@lotuspaperie.com with your mailing information so I can package up your prize pack (see it at the end of THIS post). I've been trying for a half hour to post Pearl's page and I'm sick of fighting with blogger. I'll try again later to post her page. Sorry it's not here but you can see it if you click THIS link

And without further ado...

Q:Tell us a bit about you and your family.

A: I live with my husband Bob and our 2 pugs Mugsy and Pixie in a cute little house with a picket fence about 40 miles northwest of Chicago.

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking and where did you get your start in this craft?

A: I have been scrapbooking for almost 3 years…it all started when another message board I was part of (pugs of course) was putting a scrapbook together for a member who was sick…I sent my pictures to someone else to scrap and thought “heck I should give this a try” and that was it, I was hooked!!

Q:What inspires your creativity when you are scrapbooking?

A: Music definitely inspires me…Joy Division, Radiohead, the Cure, the Pixies X, Bauhaus, the Smiths are some of my favourites…this is all dark music but everything I create is bright and happy…hmmmmmmm. I also find inspiration in vintage goodies, tattoos, Audrey Hepburn movies, shopping at Anthropologie & Urban Outfitters

Q:Describe your creative style

A: My style is bright and happy and messy and layered and eclectic…I don’t know if that is a “style” but it’s what I do!

Q:What are your three favorite products/techniques right now?

A: Right now I am in *love* with the new “Offbeat” line of pp by Basic Grey, I also must have Thickers…I don’t think I can scrap without them anymore and for #3 I will go with lace and fabric on Los.

Q:What project(s) are you currently working on?

A: Currently I am working on Harry Potter ATCs for a swap over at SIS.

Q:Describe your perfect day

A: I always love a day where my husband and I take the train into Chicago to just wander around, maybe go to a museum, shop and eat out….it’s even better if it is a nice sunny day
