Makin' a break for it!

A quick note...Ray & I are sneaking off to Skagway Alaska today for the night- a night away to recharge our batteries! I'll be taking lots of pictures so I'll post all about it next week. Have a fantastic weekend. I know I will!

Challenge 75

I swear, if I get any busier, I'm gonna explode!!! Life on a farm is so non-stop...who knew?? We have been getting ready for our sod season to begin here and amidst that (and fighting with my computer) I've been trying my darndest to scrap & knit as fast as I can which is pretty tricky most days.
This week's sketch is so simple but just see for yourself how wonderfully different each of the gals' pages are! Such beautiful work this week.

Remember that this challenge marks the beginning of the new month of challenges and uploading to the Flickr Group using this sketch will put you in the running for the June Couture Collection, "Peaceful". If you haven't already done so, join the group and be sure that you upload your images to the Lotus Paperie photo pool and don't forget to include which week your challenge is for in the title so that when it's time for us to vote on a favorite, yours doesn't get missed.

Why do it the easy way?

So most of you know that I have moved from a quiet life of being a logger's wife on Vancouver Island where all my childhood friends and my family reside. I left because my husband and I had the chance to take over management of his parents' sod farm in Whitehorse Yukon...sounds like an adventure, right!?! Well, let me tell you about what kind of an adventure this is turning out to be.

We are both in way over our heads but for how overwhelming it is, it's also super thrilling to know that we're learning the ropes of the business that sustained Ray's family growing up and that it will also do the same for us and our kids as they grow up. I guess it'll be here for our boys too if they choose to be farmers...and every day is full; full of things to do, full of challenges and definitely full of successes (which is good because there are definitely days when I wanna dropkick my laptop outta the window!)

We've been setting the record straight with some of the confusion relating to the farm's change of management (like we're not going out of business, we're NOT sold out of sod- we haven't even started selling yet!, and our prices have NOT nearly tripled!) and today our local newspaper is coming out to the farm to get a photo of Ray and me for a story about the farm's history and about the change of management. YAY FOR US!

So I guess I better get my day underway so that I can continue to strike things off my To-do list...Oh, and Open Crop Night is tonight at the studio (7-10ish) Come if you can!

Meet Kim!

This is Kim White. She is another extremely talented scrapbooker who has joined us for the month of June as our Guest Designer. She is on the Design Teams for Unpubbed and for Salt. She will be joining us in our weekly challenges and lending us her mojo to feed everyone's creativity. Below are a few of her most favorite pages and you are invited to scraplift any one of them to win a prize (which you'll get a look at later...but trust me, it's a good one!). All you have to do is link to this post and show us your stuff!

We sent Kim a few questions to answer. You can get to know Kim a little more by reading her answers below!

Q:Tell us a bit about you and your family.

A: I am married to the most wonderful man in the world – Matt and we have two beautiful boys Joel and Joshua.

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking and where did you get your start in this craft?

A:I have been scrapbooking since 2003. My sister bought me an album, some paper and embellishments and I was hooked. I started buying scrapbooking magazines for inspiration and my love affair with paper took off from there.

Q:What inspires your creativity when you are scrapbooking?

A: Mostly internet sites and challenge blogs … but I also have many scrapbooking books and magazines in my scrapbooking room to look at too! Ali Edwards is my all time favorite when it comes to inspiration and I was blessed to take two of her courses in 2006.

Q:Describe your creative style

A: Simple. Some have described it as eclectic, which I would agree with. I’ve been playing with Digital scrapbooking lately and really enjoy that … but I also love all things paper, and making a mess on my desk is always a joy!

Q:What are your three favorite products/techniques right now?

A: 1. Digital/hybrid scrapbooking

2. American Crafts Thickers (my absolute favorite)

3. Cardboard … really enjoying using this medium in real life and digi too!

Q:What project(s) are you currently working on?

A: I am on two design teams for the Unpubbed challenge blog and also for the SALT challenge blog. These keep me busy with two layouts a month each. Generally I scrap the stories I am living right now and don’t worry about “catching up” . I do have a Rubbermaid container full of ideas for mini books that I want to build at some point.

Q:Describe your perfect day

A: A day that my husband is home, and we can spend time with the kids making memories and taking pictures (for future scrapbooking of course!). With the weather warming up I’m looking forward to camping and spending more time outdoors.

Welcome to the team Kim!

USB Cord thievery!

So it was true, Danielle's husband DID swipe the USB cord for her camera...so even though her page was late, it's here now! I gotta say, D, that journaling block is perfect for this page! Nice work!
